Psychotherapy is about change. To develop and thrive, each of us must face the difficult feelings that often precede and accompany meaningful change. Feelings like sadness, anxiety, fear, anger and ambivalence are necessary precursors for growth and healing.
While it is human nature to try to avoid pain, by avoiding or denying these unwelcome emotions we actually prolong the discomfort and make change more difficult. I believe therapy helps us learn how to work through these feelings in constructive ways, and to ultimately live a happier, more fulfilling life.
